Introduction.
The forest Research Unit has been undertaking the priority developments outlined in national forest policy through need based planning, conducting or coordinating applied research, education and the extension covering mainly priority aspects of local forest industry and livelihood needs of the rural population. This unit also works in collaboration with other regional Research organizations to address emerging global issues such as climate change, deforestation, sustainable management and development of forest resources.
Objectives of the Research unit:
- To conduct targeted and applied research in all aspect of forestry sector
- To conduct forestry awareness campaigns across all level of Vanuatu society
- To provide adequate training for all forestry sector stakeholders
Services:
Generally this services being provided focuses mainly on the following areas: Seed technology, gene pool conservation, tree improvement, integrated farming systems, forest plantation management, forest products development, health and protection relating to climate change.
